On Friday Bryan and I exhausted ourselves and did an awesome 12 hour roundtrip climb of Byron Peak, the west summit specifically (there are two, and the east is a little more boring in winter). There's a massive high pressure sitting over Alaska now so it was crystal clear with light winds. Temps were around 50-60 all day which is great. The route takes you up the Byron Glacier and to the summit at 4590 feet. We only encountered 3 or 4 crevasses, but come summer when all the snow melts, the glacier is a maze of giant crevasses. Luckily we had a good snow year and most of the holes were plugged and we encountered no problems other than running out of water. When we got to the bottom we gorged ourselves on fresh snowmelt water and then stopped in Girdwood for the obligatory milk and powedered donuts run. A good day for sure!
Check out the beauty.. and adventure.. and B-Ryan.
